Historical Note
This charitable organization was established by Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, which was registered in 1968 in Bangalore. Since then Mahabodhi Medical Mission was running in Bangalore offering medical treatment to poor patients.

In 1975 a piece of land was obtained from the government in Saraswathipuram in Mysore to run educational institutions. A small cottage for the resident monk was built first and then a building was constructed to run a hostel and school for the poor children. The school is functioning since 1982.

All those years there were about 30-50 boys residing at the hostel.
                                                     Mahabodhi Residential School Project
A plan was conceived in 1998 in accordance with the aims of the organization to improve and further develop the school and residential facilities. A comprehensive plan consisted of constructing new buildings for hostel and school to provide holistic education based on character building moral values, academic excellence and harmonious living. The noble eight fold Path taught by the Buddha forms the foundation philosophy of this education program. The hostel has capacity to accommodate 180 children and the school is from LKG to 10th standard which is catering education to nearly 400 children.
